After a choppy session on Thursday, the major market indices ended close to flat, breaking a six-day winning streak.
After reaching the day's high of 17,490.70 in the early session, the Nifty fell below the 17,400 mark to close. Pharma, healthcare, and IT stocks provided assistance for the indices. PSU bank, real estate, and media companies, on the other hand, were under pressure. Due to the NSE's weekly index options expiry today, trading was erratic.

The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 51.73 points or 0.09% to 58,298.80 as of preliminary closing data. To 17,382, the Nifty 50 index dropped 6.15 points or 0.03 %. Both indices have increased by around 5.5% during the course of six sessions. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased by 0.29% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased by 0.25% in the overall market.
The India VIX, a measure of the market's expectation of short-term volatility, increased 4.37% to 19.26 at the same time. Market breadth was in the red. 1,559 shares increased and 1,781 shares decreased on the BSE and 137 shares in total remained unchanged.
Following the surge on Wall Street, the majority of European shares and Asian stocks were trading higher on Thursday. Investors let go of the hostilities surrounding U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's contentious trip to Taiwan. On Wednesday, Pelosi met with Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan, despite Beijing's concerns. In order to continue her Asia tour, Pelosi has since left the independently managed island that China regards as a runaway province.
Later on, Thursday, investors will be concentrating on the Bank of England's monetary policy announcement. It is widely anticipated that the central bank will boost interest rates by 50 basis points, the most since 1995. The non-manufacturing PMI for the ISM recovered from a level of 55.3 in June to 56.7 last month, reversing three consecutive monthly falls.
