List of top 5 gainers and losers in the midcap and smallcap segment for the week from September 30 to October 6, 2022.

Taking global cues during the week the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex recouped earlier losses by 3.21% or 795 points and closed at 58222.10 on October 6, 2022.

The broader market also recovered during the week with S&P BSE Midcap closing up by 3.72% at 25424.08. The S&P BSE Smallcap also ended at 29,096.16 gaining 3.74%.

The biggest gainer in the midcap segment for the week was Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. Shares of the PSU rose by 20.29% for the week from the levels of Rs 493.45 to Rs 593.45. The stock logged a fresh all-time high of Rs 603 on October 6. Mazagon Dock Limited is India’s premier shipyard constructing warships as well as offshore platforms. Main activities are shipbuilding, ship repairs and fabrication of offshore structures with facilities situated at Mumbai and Nhava.

 The top gainer in the smallcap segment is Max Ventures and Industries Ltd (MaxVIL). Shares of this NBFC rose to 24.06% for the week from the levels of Rs 141.95 to Rs 176.1. The stock logged a fresh 52-week high on October 6 at Rs 191.95. The company has announced undertaking simplification of its corporate structure wherein MaxVIL will merge with Max Estates Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of MaxVIL. Max Estates Limited will solely focus on the real estate business. Post the completion of the merger, the shareholders of MaxVIL will receive 1 equity share of Max Estates Limited and 1 equity share of MaxVIL and Max Estates Limited will be listed on the Indian Stock Exchanges. The transaction is expected to be completed within 6 to 9 months subject to NCLT approvals. Approval from Stock Exchanges has already been received. The wholly owned subsidiaries of MaxVIL viz. Max Asset Services (MAS) & Max I. Limited will become the wholly owned subsidiaries of Max Estates Limited.

The losers of smallcap space were led by Vinyl Chemicals (India) Ltd. The shares of this Pidilite Group company fell from Rs 660.25 to Rs 596.45 registering a loss of 22.33 % in the stock price. The stock has witnessed significant momentum in the last couple of months logging a fresh all-time high of Rs 952.10 on September 19. The multibagger stock has since witnessed profit booking at higher levels.
