List of top 5 gainers and losers in the Midcap and Smallcap segment for the week from July 1 to 7, 2022.
The 1st week of the second quarter of FY23 kickstarted on a positive note and ended the week with gains in all sectors. While Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and FMCG gained up to 5% each, IT, Oil & Gas and Energy witnessed minuscule gains. Benchmark Index S&P BSE Sensex closed for the week at 54,178.46 which is higher by 2.4% or 1270 points.
The broader market also extended even higher gains during the week with S&P BSE Mid Cap closing at 22,611.38 up 3.44% or 752 points for the week. The S&P BSE Small Cap closed at 25,568.55 up by 3.07 % or 761 points.

Last week’s biggest loser was the biggest gainer in the mid-cap segment for the week. The shares of Brightcom Group delivered a weekly return of 21.23% from the levels of Rs 33.20 to Rs 40.25. After a significant correction YTD of 68 %, the stock witnessed a trend reversal. The shares of the adtech company hit the upper circuit of 5% on each trading session of the week taking the weekly gain to 21.3%. The laggards of the midcap segment were led by Oil India Ltd. The shares of the company fell 17.5 % from Rs 213.95 to Rs 176.50 on the back of the windfall gain tax slapped by the Central Government on domestic crude oil producers. Domestic oil producers (like Oil India) which sell crude oil to domestic refineries at international parity prices, off late were making windfall gains. Government’s decision to impose an additional cess of Rs 23,250 per ton by way of special additional excise duty on crude oil in an attempt to ease off the pressure on the depreciating rupee.
