Markets have been trending downwards, despite this some stocks are trading near their all-time high. Read on to find out more.
In the first half of the trading session, the frontline indices traded in a narrow range and were flat. Although, Nifty was trading above 16,500 level, but seems to be resisting at 16,600 level. This fall in the Nifty can be very well attributed to pressure in IT, media, PSU banks and realty sectors.
At the time of writing, Nifty 50 index was trading 0.23% down at 16,546. Speaking about the broader markets, the Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index were down 0.7% at 27,826 and 1.2% at 9,100, respectively. Market breadth seemed to be weak as 1,191 stocks advanced, 2,026 stocks declined, while around 175 stocks remained unchanged.
On Friday as US Treasury yields reached a two-week high (2.95%) amid data showing that the US economy generated a higher number of jobs in May than expected. This signifies that the Federal Reserve will probably carry on with its agenda of raising interest rates to control inflation.
As a result, the global equity markets came under pressure. The US indices on Friday fell sharply and ended with weekly losses of 1.2%, 0.98% and 0.94% for S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow, respectively.
