Bharat Dynamics Limited's (BDL) manufacturing base for guided missiles and other allied defence equipment was formed in Hyderabad in the year 1970 as a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defense. BDL's headquarters are located in Hyderabad. It began its journey by producing the first Generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) - the French SS11B1 - which was nurtured by a pool of skilled engineers gathered from the DRDO and aerospace businesses. This product was the outcome of an agreement between the Government of India and Aerospatiale, which is located in the French Republic.
Following the fruitful conclusion of the SS11B1 project, the business began manufacturing of second-generation anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), including the Russian Konkurs and the French MILAN-2. It has been possible for BDL's engineers to acquire a profound understanding of the design principles and system engineering of anti-tank guided missiles as a result of the productization process at BDL, which involves a phase-wise transfer of technology with an emphasis on indigenization.
