Yesterday, markets faced a big gap down and ended in red. However, some sectors have outperformed the markets. Read on to find out more.

Post yesterday’s blood bath, markets took a breather and are trading flat with modest gains. Yesterday, markets witnessed a gap down opening, where it opened 324.3 points (2%) lower to end the session at 15,774.4, staring at an intraday loss of around 3%.

This was amid the poorer than expected inflation numbers from the US which is almost near its 40-Year high. On Monday, India announced its May retail inflation number which was better than the previous month.

India’s retail inflation stood at 7.04% in May 2022, as against 7.79% in April 2022. Having said that, it is still higher than the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) ideal inflation band of 4% to 6%.

Moreover, despite the prominent US indices ending around 3 to 4% in red, this morning its futures were trading with modest gains which also indicated a flat start for Indian markets.

At the time of writing, Nifty 50 was trading up with modest gains of 12.4 points (0.08%) at 15,786.8. Speaking about the broader markets, Nifty Mid-Cap and Nifty Small-Cap indices outperformed the frontline indices as it was up by 0.43% and 0.5%, respectively.

Going back to October 2021, the Nifty then began its downwards journey and the decline is still intact. However, even though markets have been declining, some sectors have outperformed the markets. In this article, we would look at those top sectors that have outperformed S&P BSE 500 index.
