Opening bell: Headline indices trade higher in early deals

Domestic equity indices rose satisfactorily in early trade, following positive global indications.
On May 16, 2022, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,788.93 crore in the Indian equities market, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net purchasers worth Rs 1,428.39 crore. In the United States, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended the day slightly lower, while Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.08%.
At 9:30 AM, the BSE Sensex had gained 346.5 points and is trading at 53,320.34 levels. The BSE MidCap also climbed by 154.06 points and is trading at 22,299.16 levels. The BSE SmallCap has similarly ascended by 245.70 points and is trading at 25,851.69 levels. The stocks trading in the green on the BSE Sensex were Tata Steel, Reliance Industries and Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.
The Nifty 50 index opened in the green today gaining by 121.70 points and is now trading at 15,964.00 levels. Bank Nifty similarly jumped up by 315.20 points and is trading at 33,912.80 levels. The gainers on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Tata Steel.
The market outlook was positive as out of 2601 stocks traded, the numbers of stocks advanced were 1,931 and 583 stocks have declined in the morning session. A total of 145 stocks were locked up in the upper circuit and 77 stocks were locked in the lower circuit, 29 stocks were trading at a 52-week high and 21 stocks were trading at a 52-week low.
