Semiconductor shortage continues to take a toll on sales of passenger vehicles.
At 11:15 AM on Wednesday, Indian equity markets are trading in the red zone on account of aggravating geo-political tensions between Russia and Ukraine as well as weak cues from US stock markets.
Headline index Nifty 50 is trading at 16,568.30 levels, down by 1.34% i.e. 225.60 points. Top gainers of the index include Coal India, Hindalco, Tata Steel, ONGC and SBI Life Insurance. Top losers comprise Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank and Bajaj Auto.
On the contrary, Nifty Smallcap 100 index is trading in the green territory at 9,952.55, up by 1.11% i.e. 108.10 points. Top gainers driving the index higher include MCX India, Aegis Logistics, KEI Industries, UTI AMC, NALCO and Bharat Dynamics. Top losers comprise JK Lakshmi Cement, Kajaria Ceramic, Thyrocare Technologies, Linde India and Sunteck Realty.
Commodity stock, majorly metals are exhibiting strong optimism, bucking the bearish broader market trend as crude oil prices have recently recorded fresh highs of US$ 109 per barrel. There has been a whopping 43% surge in oil prices so far this year due to the fear of oil disruption from Russia (which is one of the biggest oil producers) after it invaded Ukraine.
Semiconductor shortage continues to take a toll on sales of passenger vehicles. Major manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India, Toyota, and Honda have reported a decline in their sales for the month of February compared to the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales fell 6.7% to 1,37,607 units during the month, while Hyundai reported a 14.6% drop to 44,050 units. Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors reported a jump in sales and bucked the trend.
