Indian equity market is trading higher today, owing to positive global cues.

Bharti Airtel, Indian Oil Corporation, DLF, PI Industries, Abbott India, Bajaj Electricals, Bajaj Healthcare, IRB Infrastructure Developers, Kajaria Ceramics, Dr Lal PathLabs, Minda Corporation and Sapphire Foods India will release their quarterly results today.

Life Insurance Corporation of India made its debut on stock markets today. Although the IPO attracted an overwhelming response from investors, the shares of the insurance company opened at a discount price worth Rs 872.

Globally, headline indicators were trading upwards amid positive global sentiments. SGX Nifty indicated a positive opening with a gain of 42 points. As a result, Indian benchmark indicators Sensex and Nifty 50 were also trading in green territory.

At 11:40 am, the market strength was very good as 2,422 equities increased on the BSE, whereas 715 declined, and 124 shares remained unchanged. Around 293 stocks are locked in the upper circuit, whereas 135 were in their lower circuit. The Sensex was trading at a level of 53,943.61, upwards by 1.83%, and the Nifty 50 was trading at 16,145.90, up by 1.92%.

BSE Midcap index was trading at a level of 22,417.89, up by 1.23%. The top gainers of the index were Adani Power, Oil India Ltd and Astral Ltd. The top stocks dragging the index down were Crisil Ltd, Emami Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd.

BSE Smallcap index was trading at 26,010.36, surging 1.58%. The top gainers were Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd (up by 20%), Filatex India Ltd and Orient Bell Ltd. All of these stocks jumped by more than 12%. The top stocks pulling the index down were Steel Exchange India Ltd, Birla Tyres Ltd and Future Retail Ltd.
