Sensex trades higher, Nifty goes above 15,800; gains witnessed in the power sector. Asian markets opened with deep cuts tracking the bloodbath on Wall Street and other weak global cues. All benchmark indicators were trading in red with Australia’s ASX All Ordinaries lost over 4.40%.

Bitcoin too tumbled on Monday to an 18-month low under $23,000 as investors sold off risky assets amid fears of recession. India's headline retail inflation rate drops to 7.04% in May after touching a nearly eight-year high of 7.79% in April. A drop in fuel prices after the reduction in excise duty had significantly contributed to bringing down the food prices.

At 11:35 am, the Indian benchmark indicator Sensex was trading at a level of 53,041.39, advanced by 0.37%. Ultratech Cement, NTPC Ltd and Tata Steel were the top gainers whereas Asian Paints, Reliance Industries and Maruti Suzuki were market draggers.

The Nifty 50 was trading at 15,850.40, up by 0.48%. On the Nifty 50 index, stocks trading in green were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Apollo Hospitals Ltd and JSW Steel Ltd whereas the top losers were Reliance Industries, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and HDFC Life Insurance Company.

All sectoral indices were trading upwards except BSE Oil and Gas and BSE Energy. BSE Utilities was the best performing sector with a gain of over 1.60% led by Adani Power, Reliance Infrastructure and RattanIndia Power Ltd.
