Last Updated: 13th December 2022 - 09:49 am
Markets are moving in a range-bound fashion with a negative bias. However, accumulating stocks with strong financials in such a scenario is a wise thing to do. Read on to find out more.
Markets today opened the session in green with modest gains in the highly volatile market. On the sectoral front, metals, banks, and financial services began the session nearly one per cent higher followed by Pharma and FMCG with slight gains.
At the time of writing, Nifty 50 futures was trading down by 0.71% (115 points) at 16,068 as it faced rejection at 16,200 to 16,400 levels. Speaking about broader markets, the Nifty Mid-Cap Index and Nifty Small-Cap index are underperforming benchmark indices with both of them down about 1.5% to 2%, respectively.
Having said that, accumulating stocks with strong financials makes more sense and nothing better than seeking companies with high Piotroski score.
What is Piotroski score?
The Piotroski score is a discrete score ranging from zero and nine where the companies are put through nine criteria where one criterion carries one point. This score is used to understand the financial strength of a company. This is particularly popular among the value investors where a score of nine is the best and zero is the worst. Piotroski score majorly checks the company’s profitability, leverage, liquidity, source of funds and operating efficiency.
