Following its agreement to manufacture Google's Pixel smartphones in India, electronics contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies is now preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HP India.
In collaboration with Padget Electronics, a Dixon Technologies subsidiary, HP India plans to produce notebooks, desktops, and all-in-one PCs under the PLI 2.0 scheme. This announcement, made in a joint statement on September 9, signals another major step in India's tech manufacturing sector.
Production will be housed at a new facility currently being developed by Padget Electronics in Chennai. According to the statement, "Padget Electronics Private Limited intends to enter into an MoU with HP India Sales Private Limited for the manufacturing of notebooks, desktops, and all-in-one PCs under PLI 2.0, subject to final agreements being signed in due time."
This development follows Dixon’s earlier announcement in July that it would start manufacturing Google Pixel smartphones by September. The company is also in talks with another global handset brand.
Ipsita Dasgupta, Managing Director of HP India, emphasized the significance of the new partnership. “This collaboration reinforces our commitment to the Make in India initiative, allowing us to offer a broader range of locally manufactured products to our Indian customers, combining HP's cutting-edge technology with Dixon's manufacturing expertise,” Dasgupta said.
The new 300,000 square-foot facility in Oragadam, Chennai, being built under the IT Hardware PLI 2.0 Scheme, will focus on laptops, desktops, and all-in-one devices. At full capacity, it is expected to create 1,500 jobs and produce up to 2 million units annually.
Atul B Lall, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Dixon Technologies, shared his optimism about the collaboration. “With HP's visionary leadership and stringent quality processes paired with our manufacturing know-how, we’re confident we will successfully deliver a wide range of HP personal systems to Indian consumers,” Lall remarked.
Dixon Technologies, a leading electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider in India, operates across several sectors including consumer electronics, lighting, home appliances, mobile phones, and IT hardware. It offers comprehensive solutions such as PCB assembly, plastic molding, LED panel assembly, and backward integration, along with repair and refurbishment services for various products including set-top boxes, mobile phones, and CCTV systems.
