Bharti Airtel Q1 Results Highlights: Net Profit Doubles to ₹4,160 Cr

Bharti Airtel has announced a substantial 158% year-on-year rise in its Q1 FY25 net profit, totaling ₹4,160 crore. The consolidated net profit for this period was ₹2,925 crore. Additionally, the company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter amounted to ₹19,944 crore, marking a 1% increase from the previous year.

On August 5, Bharti Airtel reported a significant 158% year-on-year increase in its Q1 FY25 net profit, reaching ₹4,160 crore compared to ₹1,612 crore in the same period the previous year. The telecom giant’s revenue for the April-June quarter saw a 2.8% annual rise, totaling ₹38,506 crore, up from ₹37,440 crore. The company attributed the modest growth to currency devaluation in Africa.
A poll conducted by Moneycontrol, involving estimates from five brokerage firms, had forecasted Bharti Airtel’s net profit for the fiscal first quarter at ₹3,455 crore and revenue at ₹38,611 crore.
The average revenue per user (ARPU) per month, a critical metric for telecom companies, increased by 5.5% year-on-year to ₹211, up from ₹200 a year prior.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter stood at ₹19,944 crore, reflecting a 1% year-on-year increase. The EBITDA margin was 51.8%, a decrease of 90 basis points compared to the previous year. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to ₹9,355 crore, marking a 7.2% year-on-year decline.
Kotak Institutional Equities anticipated a slight rise in ARPU to ₹210 in Q1 FY25, up from ₹209 in the previous quarter. They noted that it would take a few more quarters for the recent tariff hikes to be fully realized. Axis Securities projected a 15% ARPU increase by Q3 FY25, driven by higher conversions and tariff hikes.
