Stocks in domestic kitchen appliance manufacturers have appreciated today, with Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances moving up by 13.64%, and TTK Prestige gaining 5.3%, as the demand for induction cooking and electric kettles has picked up due to concerns in the liquefied natural gas supply chain.
Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances climbed 13.64% to an intraday high of ₹673.95 on the NSE, extending gains for the second consecutive session. TTK Prestige advanced 5.3% to ₹503 per share after four straight sessions of decline.
Stove Kraft shares also moved higher, rising 6.65% to ₹526 on the NSE, marking a second day of gains. Hawkins Cookers was trading higher by about 1% during the session.
Demand Surge For Electric Cooking Appliances
The rally in appliance stocks follows a sharp increase in demand for induction cooktops and electric kettles, as concerns over cooking gas availability intensified after recent geopolitical developments.
According to a statement by Infiniti Retail Ltd, which operates Croma, the company recorded a threefold increase in demand for induction cooktops over the past few days. The company’s CEO and Managing Director Shibashish Roy said that the average daily run rate for these products has risen significantly.
Stove Kraft Ltd also reported a surge in sales, stating that its average weekly online sales increased four times during the same period.
Trigger: Strike At Qatar’s Ras Laffan Facility
The demand shift comes after Qatari authorities confirmed that Ras Laffan Industrial City was hit by an Iranian missile on March 18, according to Reuters. The facility, which accounted for nearly 20% of global LNG supply before production was halted earlier this month, is a key export hub.
A subsequent attack on March 19 caused a fire at the site, with QatarEnergy reporting damage to multiple LNG facilities. No casualties were reported.
Supply Concerns Impact Consumer Behaviour
These changes have led to concerns over the availability of LNG, especially for importing countries, thereby leading to the adoption of electric and energy-efficient cooking appliances.
The sudden surge in appliance stocks is due to the increase in the visibility of the demand for companies that manufacture induction-based products as the uncertainties over the availability of supplies persist due to the incident.
