Importance of Shri Mahavir Jayanti

Shri Mahavir Jayanti marks the birthday of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, for which Jains have a special celebration and observance. These celebrations include general prayers, processions, and almsgiving, based on principles of non-violence, truth, and compassion.

Stock market holidays in April 2025

Along with Shri Mahavir Jayanti on April 10th, the Indian stock markets will also have two more holidays in April: 

April 14th, 2025 (Monday): डॉ. बाबा साहेब आंबेडकर जयंती 
April 18th, 2025 (Friday): गुड फ्रायडे.

These holidays are part of the 14 stock market holidays scheduled for the year 2025, as announced by the exchanges​ 

Effect on Trading and Settlement

• All trading effects would be suspended in segments like equity, derivative, and SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing) on both BSE and NSE from the out-start of the trading hours on April 10, 2025. Settlement operations planned for that day will be postponed till the next working day. 
• The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also have a restricted closure tomorrow. The morning session will remain shut, while the evening session will be effective from 5:00 PM onward.
