An National Pension Scheme or an NPS Account can either be opened online or offline.
First, visit the PFRDA Website
Click on the ‘Registration’ and select ‘register with Aadhaar’ Option.
Enter the Aadhaar Number and click on “Generate OTP” option. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number.
Enter the OTP along with personal details, nomination details, and bank details.
Once the application is successfully submitted, Permanent Retirement Allotment Number (PRAN) will be allotted.
Click on the ‘e-signature’ option. Another OTP will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to verify the signature and make payment.
If registration is done using PAN Card, then the KYC is taken care of by the bank. That is why the savings account needs to be in an NSDL-NPS empaneled bank. The details filled in during online application should match the details already with the bank. If they don’t match, the bank can deny the registration application
Visit the nearest Point of Presence (POPs) registered under PFRDA. POPs provide services for those that come under the NPS scheme and these are banks and financial institutions that are appointed by PFRDA.
Subscription to NPS Scheme, changing fund manager, and all related services under NPS are provided at these POPs. To subscribe to NPS Scheme, one must fill out an application form with the basic necessary details and provide necessarily Know Your Customer (KYC) documents including Aadhar Card, PAN Card, address proof etc.
