BSE India Infra
BSE India INFRA is a key index on the Bombay Stock Exchange that provides investors with a comprehensive view of the infrastructure sector's performance in India. It covers a diverse range of companies from various industries, offering a snapshot of market trends and sectoral growth.
Regularly updated to reflect the latest market conditions, BSE India INFRA has become a benchmark for investors looking to track or invest in the country’s infrastructure landscape. Its composition and periodic reviews ensure it remains relevant, making it a valuable tool for those interested in this critical sector of the economy.
What is the BSE Infra Index?
The BSE India INFRA index, launched on May 19, 2014, captures the performance of India's infrastructure industry. Comprising 30 diversified stocks selected from the S&P BSE AllCap index, it spans seven sectors: Capital Goods, Power, Transport Services, Oil & Gas, Finance, Utilities, and Housing.
The index is calculated using modified market capitalization and reconstituted annually, with semi-annual weight rebalancing. Managed by the S&P BSE Index Committee, it is calculated in ₹ and $, providing a benchmark for fund portfolios and index funds in the infrastructure sector.
How is the BSE Infra Index Value Calculated?
The BSE India INFRA index value is calculated using the formula:
Index Value = Index Market Value / Divisor,
where Index Market Value = Price × Shares × IWF (Float Factor) × FX rate × AWFi.
AWFi is the Adjusted Stock Market Value factor assigned during the rebalancing date. The Divisor is derived by dividing the Index Market Value after rebalancing by the Index Value before rebalancing. The index undergoes annual reconstitution in September, with semi-annual reviews in March and September to adjust for index cap weightings. A single stock is capped at 10%, while the infrastructure cluster is capped at 30%. Corporate actions are weighted based on a non-market capitalisation method to maintain balance and liquidity.
BSE Infra Scrip Selection Criteria
To be included in the BSE India INFRA index, securities must meet several eligibility criteria. They must be domiciled in India, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and part of the S&P BSE AllCap index. Additionally, they must fall under the infrastructure sub-groups based on the BSE Sector Classification System, grouped into five clusters: construction & engineering, energy, NBFCs, transportation, and utilities. Each infrastructure cluster is limited to 10 stocks.
Only common shares are eligible, and a stock must have been listed for at least six months. The stock must also have an average daily free float market cap of at least ₹1 lakh crore, reduced to ₹80,000 crore for current constituents. It must have an annualized traded value of at least ₹20,000 crore, with ₹16,000 crore as the minimum for current stocks. Additionally, the turnover ratio must be at least 10%, or 8% for current constituents, and the stock must not have more than five non-trading days in the past six months.
Stocks ranked beyond the top 10 based on a six-month average daily free float market cap are excluded, and the top 20 stocks must be included. The remaining 10 stocks are selected from current constituents ranked 21-40.
