March saw the sharpest retail sell-off since December 2023, with net outflows of ₹9,200 crore, marking the first net selling by retail investors since September 2024.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were strong buyers, infusing ₹28,118 crore into equities, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, withdrawing ₹8,224 crore.

Retail sell-off was driven by financial year-end tax strategies, profit-booking, and market volatility, especially impacting small and mid-cap stocks.

Amid market recovery, many investors opted for short-term profit-booking with gains of 10-15%, choosing safety over high-risk multi-bagger investments.

Investors are pivoting to value stocks, fixed-income securities, and gold, as a hedge against high interest rates and ongoing market uncertainty.
