HDFC Bank Ltd. is a leading Indian bank providing banking and financial services, including retail, wholesale banking, treasury operations, and parabanking activities like credit cards and third-party product distribution, serving individuals, corporates, and government bodies.

About HDFC Bank

One of the first organizations to obtain "in principle" approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to establish a private sector bank was Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC). Founded in August 1994 under name "HDFC Bank Limited," HDFC Bank is a publicly traded financial institution with its main office located in Mumbai, India. Its activities encompass a variety of banking & financial services, such as wholesale, retail, & treasury operations banking. HDFC Ltd., which held 19.32% ownership as of September 30, 2020, is one promoting it. At the moment, India's biggest private sector bank is HDFC Bank Ltd. (HBL).

HDFC bank offers NRI clients offshore deposits, bonds, equity, mutual funds, treasury, & structured products offered by third parties from its Bahrain branch. the bank also maintains offices & branches in Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, & Kenya. International business balance sheet has value of US$7.66 bn as of March 31, 2022. As of FY22, bank's network has 21,683 banking locations throughout India, including Branches (6342), Business Correspondents (15,431), ATMs/cash deposits, & Withdrawal Machines (18,130). HDFC is major participant in nation's payments ecosystem. HDFC Bank-issued card is used for every third dollar spent on cards in India. They have over 3.21 crore debit cards & 1.45 crore credit cards issued. In terms of acquisition, they now have over 17 lakh merchant acceptance locations throughout country.

They account for around half of all electronic card volumes, giving them commanding market dominance.
