Established in 1911, Central Bank of India holds the distinction of being the first Indian commercial bank owned and operated entirely by Indians. Its founder, Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala, envisioned this bank as a symbol of national pride. The bank's first chairman, Sir Pherozesha Mehta, led it as a truly indigenous institution. In 2008, Central Bank of India partnered with Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company to distribute Kotak Mutual Fund products through its branches. This collaboration expanded the range of investment options available to customers through the bank.
Central Bank of India functions as commercial bank in India providing various financial services. It offers deposit options like savings, current, fixed and recurring accounts, alongside loans for housing, vehicles, personal needs, education and agriculture, catering to individuals and MSMEs. The bank also issues credit, debit and prepaid cards, and provides services such as cash management, mutual funds and online banking. Corporate services include project financing, infrastructure funding and various loan facilities. Additionally it sells life, general and health insurance products. With a widespread network of branches, ATMs and satellite offices, Central Bank of India serves customers across the country. It collaborates with IIFL Home Finance Limited to provide SME LAP loan products.
