How to invest in US stocks from India?

There are two ways of investing in the US stock market from India:

·   Direct investment in stocks. ·   Indirect investment in stocks

Direct investment in stocks.

One can do this by either opening an overseas trading account with domestic broker who has tie-ups with foreign brokers or opening a trading account with a foreign broker operating in India.

Indirect investment in stocks via mutual funds, ETFs or new-age investing apps

An individual investor is allowed invest upto $250000 per year without any special permissions under the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme.

US stocks can also be bought through the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) via the platform of the NSE International Exchange (NSE IFSC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) or the India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited (India INX), BSE’s international arm, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, India INX Global Access IFSC Limited.

Investors will have to pay up various charges for their foreign investments such as:
