Established in February 1999, International Gemmological Institute (India) Limited (IGI) is a globally recognized leader in certifying and grading diamonds, gemstones, and jewellery. The organization provides independent grading reports, adhering to international standards to analyze key attributes like colour, cut, clarity, and carat weight. Additionally, IGI operates 31 laboratories worldwide and 18 gemology schools, offering expertise in natural and lab-grown diamonds, coloured stones, and finished jewellery. Beyond certification, IGI supports the gem and jewellery industry through education programs, research initiatives, and degree plans, shaping thousands of professionals annually.
As of September 30, 2024, IGI employs 843 professionals, including 316 gemologists, across 20 laboratories and 9 schools under its Pre-Acquisition Group. Its global network spans 10 countries, with prominent hubs in Surat, Mumbai, Antwerp, and New York. IGI’s competitive strengths include being the second-largest independent certification provider worldwide, a key player in the growing lab-grown diamond sector, and an education-driven brand fostering industry partnerships.
